Residential Real Estate

For most people, the purchase or sale of residential real estate is one of the most expensive transactions of their lives, and it is critical to receive sound legal counsel.  The Kearney Law Office has represented hundreds of people buying and selling real estate.  We are well versed in the numerous legal requirements that factor into a residential real estate transaction in Illinois.  Visit our residential real estate page for detailed information and FAQs you need to know when buying or selling.

Criminal Defense

Crimes can be petty offenses, felonies, or misdemeanors in Illinois. Felonies are the most serious, and carry potential sentences of one year to life in prison, while misdemeanors carry potential sentences of one month, to 364 days in the county jail. Depending on your criminal history and the charges you are facing, penalties may be harsh. You need an aggressive advocate who is knowledgeable and experienced to get you the best outcome possible.  Visit our Crimes page to learn more about how the Kearney Law Office can help.

DUI (Driving Under the Influence)

Drunk driving charges can be complicated. A DUI may be charged as either a felony or a misdemeanor, based on various factors. Factors that determine how a DUI is charged include prior criminal and traffic history, driving privileges, motor vehicle insurance at the time of the arrest, whether an incident involved an accident, and whether someone was injured or killed.  Sometimes multiple charges are brought in connection with a DUI.  These charges may be based on having a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher, being under the influence of alcohol, being under the influence of intoxicating compounds, being under the influence of drugs, or being under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs or another intoxicating compound. Visit our DUI page to learn more and read FAQs.

Traffic Cases

Recent changes to the law criminalize certain traffic offenses. If you are speeding more than 26 miles per hour over the posted speed limit, you will be charged with "Aggravated Speeding", which is a misdemeanor.  This means that such an offense can give you a permanent criminal record.  Any convictions will show up on background checks when you are seeking employment or insurance.  It is therefore vital to hire an attorney who can protect your record.  If you have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), the stakes for traffic offenses are even higher.  Even a simple speeding ticket can cost you your commercial endorsement, and your job.  If you find yourself in such a situation, call our office for help.
